Albumen print, the image measuring 12x16 inches (30.5x41 cm.), the gilt-bordered mount 18x22 inches (45.7x55.9 cm.), with Johnson's gilt-lettered credit and the letterpress title on mount recto. Circa 1863-65

A pioneer of American industrial imagery, Johnson made a series of photographs along the route which was used to carry Anthracite coal from Northeastern Pennsylvania and down the Hudson River to be sold in New York City. Another print of this image is in the collection of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
